This form will be used for a person who currently has no entries in BDA

Biographies can range from only a few lines up to 2,000 words (not including references).

Primary and secondary source references (not including references already on BDA) should not exceed 1000 words.

Any major extract from a published work must be with the permission of the copyright holder and acknowledged.

Instructions on how to write, submit and index a new Biography

Writing a Biography

This form will be used for a person who currently has no entries in BDA.

Start your Submission with your full name, address, phone number and email address.

NOTE: The submitter’s name and suburb/state/country will be published. Details of the submitter’s email and/or website my be included if the submitter agrees.
We may need to contact you for clarification or checking purposes.

Continue with the Surname and Given names for the subject person of the new Biography.

Then prepare the Biography itself. Please enter information in the ‘New Biography’ box in a chronological order. Please use BDA abbreviations for place names and sources listed here: https://www.bda-online.org.au/help/bda-conventions/

For Example:

Smith, David, Carpenter, Soldier, Gold Prospector, Publican, was born on 1 Jul 1795 at Beeston Parish, NFK, ENG the son of John Smith, a Blacksmith (1775-1824) and Mary (nee Jones) (1778-). He arrived in Melbourne on the ship Eagle 28 August 1837 as a free passenger along with his wife , three children and his mother.
He married Mary Jones on 17 Sep 1820 at Snoring Parva, NFK, ENG. She had been born on 15 Dec 1800 at Snoring Parva, the daughter of Henry Jones (1770-) and Jane (nee Brown) (1772-1823). Their children were Henry, (1821-) Mary (1822-1824), David (1823-), Jane (1824-).These children, except Mary, arrived with their parents and grandmother.
During his life David worked for builder Patrick Kelly of Brown Street, Toorak until 1851 xxxx
David died .27 Mar 1852 at Dunolly, VIC and is buried in the local cemetery. His headstone reads xxxxxxxxxxxxx His wife Mary died in Sydney 26 Dec 1863 having choked on a Christmas pudding that was too hot, and is buried in the CE section of Rookwood Cemetery.

The main text of the Biography must be entered into the ‘New Biography’ box of the Form above. Please ensure that all text is entered as plain text.

The Source information for the Biography must be entered into the ‘Sources’ box of the Form above.

Once all the fields in the above Form are filled out, please press the SUBMIT button

Indexing a Biography

A Microsoft Excel Template or Access Database Template can be downloaded from HERE.

The Templates contains instructions on how to complete them.

The Templates contain fields for the Submitter’s Name, Phone and Email Address. These must be identical to what was entered on the Form above.

Then please fill the template out as instructed and email it to info@bda-online.org.au.

BDA reserve the right to reject part or all of anything submitted.
